Six beats

Modeling, lighting, and animation are all answering a story question. Before any of that, a film can live as six beats: a place, its rhythm, the break, the push, the cost, and the after.

story = place + rhythm + break + push + turn + after

1. The placeWhere are we, and who is standing there?
2. The rhythmWhat happens, over and over, before anything changes?
3. The breakWhat interrupts that rhythm?
4. The pushWhat does the character try first?
5. The turnWhat choice costs them something?
6. The afterWhat is true now that was not true before?

Give every beat at least a short sentence. Eight characters is the bar.
